Forget the Joker: Leonardo DiCaprio wants to play Stan Lee
News of a Jared Leto-less Joker movie from Warner Bros. was quickly followed by speculation that Martin Scorsese was being wooed as a producer in order to bring Leonardo DiCaprio into the DCEU fold. The notion of separate Joker pics riled Leto, who, despite lining up at least two more opportunities to play the Clown Prince of Crime, made his displeasure known. But the Suicide Squad actor and prophylactic-loving prankster might not have to worry about competing with DiCaprio after all—it sounds like his fellow Oscar winner is more of a Marvel fan.
That comes from Stan Lee, who says the Revenant star is eager to play him in a biopic. While at the first ever HASCON, the comic-book legend told attendees that DiCaprio had actually approached him about a potential film.
Believe it or not, I’ve already discussed it with Leonardo DiCaprio. He’s a neighbor of mine and we were talking one day some months ago, and he said, “Boy, it’d be fun to do your story on the screen.” So I said, ‘Well, I’ll audition you.’ Gotta make sure the guy can do it.”
DiCaprio comes across as the more starstruck one in the anecdote, as Lee claims that the actor once chased him down to say hi. Lee isn’t entirely certain DiCaprio is “good-looking enough” to play him, but one thing that is working in his favor is the fact that he “has all the walls covered with big Marvel posters and everything.”
