10 new episodes of Making A Murderer will hit Netflix next month 

There’s been talk of a follow-up to Netflix’s Emmy-winning Making A Murderer since the first installment aired back in 2015, when the nation found themselves captivated by Steven Avery, Brendan Dassey, and their involvement in the 2007 murder of photographer Teresa Halbach. We’ve followed twists in the case and the pair’s attempts to secure new trials in the intervening years, and even reported on a spinoff series, Convicting a Murderer, exploring the case from the prosecution’s side.

Now, Netflix has officially announced a new, 10-episode batch of Making a Murderer episodes, which are described in a press release as providing “an in-depth look at the high-stakes postconviction process, exploring the emotional toll the process takes on all involved.”

Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos are back for the second outing, which will feature exclusive interviews with Avery and Dassey, as well as high-profile lawyer Kathleen Zellner, who has famously righted more wrongful convictions than any private attorney in America. Dassey, who the series depicted as being coerced into his confession, will also see his representation from Northwestern University’s Center on Wrongful Convictions of Youth highlighted.

“Steven and Brendan, their families and their legal and investigative teams have once again graciously granted us access, giving us a window into the complex web of American criminal justice,” Ricciardi and Demos said in a statement. “Building on Part 1, which documented the experience of the accused, in Part 2, we have chronicled the experience of the convicted and imprisoned, two men each serving life sentences for crimes they maintain they did not commit. We are thrilled to be able to share this new phase of the journey with viewers.”

Making a Murderer launches globally on Netflix on October 19.
