14 of the highest-paid actors make more than the highest-paid actress

This year, Forbes’ list of the highest-paid actresses indicated that totals were down across the board, with top-earner Emma Stone making $26 million in 2017 as compared to Jennifer Lawrence’s $46 million in 2016, but—unsurprisingly—things are still looking really good for the men of Hollywood. According to the man version of Forbes’ list, the highest-paid actor was Mark Wahlberg, who took home a ridiculous $68 million thanks to his work in the Transformers movies, the upcoming Daddy’s Home 2, and those AT&T commercials where he tries to prove that AT&T is fun and cool.

Last year’s top-earner was Dwayne Johnson, who dropped to second this year with $65 million but still managed to beat Vin Diesel ($54.5 million), Adam Sandler ($50.5 million), and Jackie Chan ($49 million). All of those numbers are higher than Emma Stone’s $26 million, and while it might make sense for guys like Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson to make a ton of money, Forbes’ list actually indicates that 14 of the highest-paid male actors made more money than Emma Stone did. Naturally, that list includes Stone’s La La Land co-star Ryan Gosling, who made $29 million.

To put a larger scope on it, the top 10 men made a total of $488.5 million, which is significantly higher than the $172.5 million that the top 10 women made. Basically, it seems clear that there’s a huge gap between what women make and what men make.
