Here’s the lineup for the 2024 Venice Film Festival

Buckle in, film buffs, we’re not done with festival season yet. The 2024 Venice Film Festival lineup was announced on Tuesday, and rest assured there will be plenty of glamorous movie stars waving from boats. The lineup includes expected entries like Joker: Folie à Deux, starring Oscar winner Joaquin Phoenix and Lady Gaga; Luca Guadagnino’s Queer, starring Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey; and more buzzy awards season contenders.

Among the other notable filmmakers debuting projects in competition at Venice include Pedro Almodóvar (Parallel Mothers) with his first-ever English language feature The Room Next Door, starring Tilda Swinton as a war reporter who turns to a novelist friend (Julianne Moore) for help with her strained relationship with her daughter. Pablo Larrain (Jackie, Spencer) will premiere Maria, the biopic about Opera diva Maria Callas starring Angelina Jolie. Out of competition, Harmony Korine is screening his latest Baby Invasion, a first-person shooter film similar to his previous Aggro Dr1ft. Alfonso Cuarón and Joe Wright will both be premiering new series in the small-screen selection (Disclaimer and M. Son Of The Century respectively). 

Elsewhere on the lineup is Babygirl, an erotic thriller starring Nicole Kidman who begins an affair with her intern (Harris Dickinson), Brady Corbet’s The Brutalist, starring Adrien Brody, Felicity Jones, and Joe Alwyn, and The Order, starring Nicholas Hoult, Jude Law, and Tye Sheridan. Out of competition entries include the George Clooney/Brad Pitt reunion film Wolfs and Japanese director Takeshi Kitano’s latest feature Broken Rage. 

Renowned French star Isabelle Huppert will serve as the jury president for this year’s festival, joined by directors James Gray, Andrew Haigh, Agnieszka Holland, Kleber Mendonça Filho, Abderrahmane Sissako, Giuseppe Tornatore, Julia von Heinz, and Chinese actress Zhang Ziyi, per The Hollywood Reporter. The festival will open on August 28 with the out-of-competition premiere screening of Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice Beetlejuice. The full 2024 Venice Film Festival lineup can be found below.
