3 Doors Down bassist charged with vehicular homicide after accident he caused kills another driver

Robert Todd Harrell, the bassist for 3 Doors Down, was arrested and charged with vehicular homicide after he caused an accident that killed another driver this weekend in Nashville. Harrell’s speeding car reportedly clipped the pickup truck of one Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr., causing it to fall down an embankment. Shoulders, who was not wearing a seat belt, was ejected from the car. He did not survive.

Police said Harrell showed some signs of being impaired at the scene, and the bassist admitted he'd consumed hard cider along with the prescription pills Lortab and Xanax. Davidson County Sheriff’s deputies searched the arrested Harrell and found eight Xanax pills, 24 oxycodone pills, and four oxymorphone pills. He was subsequently charged with bringing controlled substances into the jail, and is currently being held on $100,000 bond. The band has cancelled its upcoming April and May dates, issuing a statement today saying they'd made the decision "out of respect to Paul Howard Shoulders, Jr. and his family."

3 Doors Down is best known for its single “Kryptonite,” from its 2000 record The Better Life. That album sold more than 6 million copies and spawned a couple of other singles, including “Loser” and “Be Like That.”
