It’s been nearly five years since 30 Rock faced Studio 60 On The Sunset Strip in a briefly considered battle of premises about the backstage shenanigans at a Saturday Night Live-type show. While fate ultimately favored the joke-delivery machine over the long-winded monologue dispenser, 30 Rock certainly hasn’t shied away from making post-mortem digs at its bested opponent—dropping references to the “walk-and-talk,” putting Studio 60’s hack writer characters in its credits—and it seems likely to eke out a few more when Aaron Sorkin appears as himself on an upcoming episode. Whatever leftover heat they throw his way, hopefully Sorkin will be able to soothe himself with the cooling touch of his many, many Social Network trophies.
