30 Seconds to Mars breaks music video barrier in China

According to Billboard.com, the video for 30 Seconds To Mars' "From Yesterday" is supposedly the first American music video shot entirely in China:

Frontman Jared Leto was behind the camera for "From Yesterday," under the guise of his alter-ego, Bartholomew Cubbins. The video was shot in the Forbidden City and the Emperor Qin palace. More than 300 extras were employed for the shoot, inspired by ancient Chinese empires and martial arts.

Leto once told Alternative Press that he performs in 30 Seconds "because I have to," so far be it from the Great Wall and a totalitarian regime to stay in his way. Someone should really tell the Chinese government that freedom has cooler ambassadors. Like Jay-Z.
