500 Days Of Summer director Marc Webb to direct new Spider-Man movie

The Hollywood Reporter has confimed that 500 Days of Summer director Marc Webb will direct what is being called a "reboot" of the Spider-Man franchise. After Tobey MacGuire and Sam Raimi opted out of a fourth go-round with your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, the studio decided to start again from scratch with an origin story detailing a teenaged Peter Parker's awkward adolescence.

According to the article, the new movie will take its cues from Brian Michael Bendis and Mark Bagley's "Ultimate Spider-Man" comic book series. No word yet on casting but the studio is apparently leaning towards unknowns. Jeez, I don't know how to feel about any of this. Cautiously optimistic, maybe? I'm just glad the director's last name doesn't invite all sorts of terrible puns.
