Now that the Original Song for AN INCONVENIENT TRUTH is being performed— and what documentary isn't enhanced by an eco-friendly original song?— I'd like to say now that the film itself is perhaps the least deserving nominee of the night. Not because it's a bad film, really, but because its merits as *filmmaking* are totally negligible. A comparable film like Jonathan Demme's SWIMMING TO CAMBODIA was enhanced by subtle visual and aural touches, but this film is basically Al Gore's PowerPoint presentation. It's compelling, terrifying stuff, but it's just not an achievement in documentary filmmaking.
