’90s favorites to judge ABC’s Boy Band singing competition

American Idol isn’t the only nostalgia-infused singing competition on ABC’s upcoming TV slate; the network’s also been working on its ’90s-ish reality show Boy Band, which will see a host of singer-dancer hybrids competing for spots on a five-member music group, presumably with any number of arguments over who will ultimately get to be the “bad boy.” Now, the show has found two certifiable ’90s-style musical celebrities to act as its judges: Backstreet Boy Nick Carter, and Spice Girl Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton.

The two singers will serve as the show’s “architects,” shaping its competitors into perfect engines of relentlessly commercial pop enthusiasm. Meanwhile, singer Rita Ora, who briefly took over for Tyra Banks on America’s Next Top Model, will host. Boy Bands arrives on ABC this summer.
