A$AP Rocky has had an interesting 2016 thus far. First there was his remix of Drake’s Nothing Was The Same song “Wu-Tang Forever,” which he dropped out of the blue on Beats 1 along with a tribute to departed A$AP Mob leader A$AP Yams titled “Yamborghini High.” Then there was the reveal that he may have contributed something to Kanye West’s upcoming album Waves—you can see his signature below the listing for the song “Ultra Light Beam”—and now he’s back out with a new song and a new animated music video.
The latest track, “Hear Me,” was made in collaboration with mega-producer and ridiculous hat connoisseur Pharrell Williams and, like “Wu-Tang Forever,” initially premiered during the A$AP Mob takeover of OVO Sound Radio on Beats 1 a couple of weeks back. The version debuted today is significantly more refined and fully fleshed out, though, and features a pretty stellar allusion to the infamous Jay-Z/Solange elevator confrontation from 2014: “And if you ain’t a man and your name ain’t Solange / keep your hands to yourself.”
In addition, Rocky also debuted a short music video for the song “JD,” taken from his latest record Long.Live. A$AP. The new clip features the real life rapper taking a drag from a cigarette before stepping into a harsh, animated world featuring ferocious red wolves and palm trees set ablaze:
