A baby shower could make anyone feel Insecure
Here’s what’s happening in the world of television for Sunday, September 16. All times are Eastern.
Top pick
Insecure (HBO, 10:30 p.m.): We’re still coming down from the high of Insecure’s best-episode-in-series contender “Fresh-Like,” and that high is undiminished by last week’s “High-Like,” which was funny and smart but not, you know, “Fresh-Like.” As such, we’re very excited-like for “Ready-Like,” which sees Molly, Issa, and Kelli attend Tiffany’s baby shower where they will, presumably, confront their own neuroses, reconsider some life choices, and be forced to play insufferable games that involve storks and pacifiers and diapers filled with stuff. Baby showers can be really nightmare-like. Luckily, Ashley Ray-Harris stands ready to help unpack our collective baggage.
Regular coverage
Shameless (Showtime, 9 p.m.)
The Deuce (HBO, 9 p.m.)
Venture Bros. (Adult Swim, midnight)
Wild card
You (Lifetime, 8 p.m.): What if a meet-cute were actually fucking terrifying? Therein lies the premise of You, Lifetime’s promising new series from Sera Gamble (The Magicians, Supernatural) and Greg Berlanti (the Greg Berlantiverse). Starring Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley and Elizabeth Lail of Once Upon A Time, it was renewed for a second season well before its premiere last week. The second episode seems a great time to catch up—you’re only one behind, and there’s almost no chance it’ll get cancelled before the end of the season and break your heart into a million pieces.
