A Coming To America sequel is coming to Paramount
Nearly 30 years after Prince Akeem left Zamunda for New York, a sequel to Coming To America is in the works. The Hollywood Reporter reports that Paramount is enlisting the writers behind the original, Barry Blaustein and David Sheffield, to work on it. Blaustein and Sheffield’s last major credit together was the 2005 Honeymooners reboot.
THR notes that it’s unclear whether Murphy, who is credited with the story on the John Landis-directed film, would be involved. However, the star did seem to tease a follow-up on Twitter recently, but that situation was also incredibly fishy. A verified Twitter account attributed to Murphy blasted out a picture of Vanessa Bell Calloway as Imani Izzi with the accompanying text “Coming to America sequel?” Murphy then vanished from the platform entirely, taking the tweet along with him.
