A demigod struggles to impress a Disney princess in the first Moana teaser

Perhaps it’s because she’s making history as Disney’s first Polynesian princess, but Moana doesn’t look that impressed by the demigod Maui’s tales of heroic deeds in this first teaser for the film. Or maybe it’s just the fact that the hulking, tattooed hero references ancient feats that were before Moana’s time, but in any case, the girl really just needs his help finding her family. After all, she may be a “born navigator” who’s descended from the greatest sailors of the world, but she’s also effectively an orphaned teen who’s traveling with a pig.

You might recognize Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson’s voice behind all the braggadocio, but the role of Moana went to newcomer and Hawaiian native Auli’i Cravalho. Alan Tudyk and Hamilton’s Phillipa Soo round out the rest of the cast. Hamilton creator and Tony Awards sweeper Lin-Manuel Miranda pitched in on the score along with Opetaia Foa’i and Mark Mancina (The Lion King, Tarzan). Moana coasts into theaters November 23, 2016.
