A Forum, a Temple, and a Gaycation walk into a television

Here’s what’s up in the world of TV for Wednesday, September 7. All times are Eastern.

Top picks

Lucha Underground (El Rey, 8 p.m.): It seems like only yesterday Lucha Underground season two ended—it was actually July—but now here we are, with El Rey returning to the Temple for season three. A 40-episode season three, even. Hit us with the press release, LU! “Masked heroes and villains will continue to battle it out for wrestling supremacy in the hour-long weekly series, giving fans a ringside seat to the blood-pumping, chant-starting lucha libre drama and excitement. With Dario Cueto’s fate unclear, only one thing is for sure, this new season will bring even more death defying action with a new set of luchadores ready to leave their mark on the Temple.” It’s back. So get ready for 40 episodes of your wrestling fan friends (or at least cool Los Angeles friends) telling you, “You should really check out Lucha Underground.” “It’s a serialized fantasy show that just so happens to have wrestling in it!” “Pentagon Jr. is the biggest badass in the world.” You know, little good lucha things.

[Note: El Rey, like The A.V. Club, is owned by Univision Communications.]

Commander-In-Chief Forum (MSNBC/NBC, 8 p.m.): It’s the Commander-In-Chief Forum, y’all! Wait, what’s the Commander-In-Chief Forum? “NBC News Presents the First-Ever Commander-In-Chief Forum.” So, first of all, it’s a new thing. And it’s not about America’s current Commander-In Chief: “During this one-hour forum, both Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will be on stage back-to-back taking questions on national security, military affairs and veterans issues from NBC News and an audience comprised mainly of military veterans and active service members.”

Gaycation (Viceland, 10:30 p.m.): “Gaycation, all I ever wanted / Gaycation, had to get away.” We’re not actually sure if that’s the theme song for Viceland’s Gaycation or not, but it’s certainly up for grabs if the show needs it during its second season premiere. Ellen Page and Ian Daniel are visiting Ukraine for tonight’s episode, by the way.

Premieres and finales

The Real Housewives Of New York City (Bravo, 9 p.m.): “Reunion Part 2” time is now upon us, and the ladies are not done getting emotional and addressing issues. Not. Even. Close. “Here, Bethenny gets emotional about her life situation, Dorinda addresses her inclination to meddle, and the group zeros in on the saga revolving around Tom.” See? We told you.

American Gothic (CBS, 9/10 p.m.): “In the season finale, a killer taunts the Hawthornes and they look to the police for help and Alison is stunned by a starting discovery and the return of an old friend. Later: the family tries to identify the killer, but deadly consequences ensue.” That’s great, but really, all your friendly neighborhood What’s On Tonight contributor wonders is whether or not American Gothic will become the new Extant and last long past her expectations. “Season finale” and all, you know?

Full Circle (DirecTV Audience Network, 9 p.m.): In December of last year, anthology series Full Circle was renewed for a “presidential election-themed” third season, because as we all know, nothing is safe or sacred. So tonight, it begins, as the show “takes on the timely topic of a national presidential race that is rocked by a sex scandal” and becomes Full Circle: Miami. Gotta love a good political sex scandal. And Miami. Dougray Scott, Kim Raver, Christopher Gorham, and Harold Perrineau make up a good portion of the cast, but in case you’re specifically keeping track of Just Shoot Me cast members’ comings and goings, you can also expect Laura San Giacomo in this season.

Harley And The Davidsons (Discovery Channel, 9 p.m.): The Harley And The Davidsons miniseries event ends tonight with “Legacy.” “The Great Depression ravages the economy, bringing the company to the brink of closure.” Spoiler alert: The company will be all right.

Tyrant (FX, 10 p.m.): We’ve heard about 2 Guns, but “Two Graves”??? Alright, we’ve heard all about two graves too, but we wanted to make Scott Aukerman proud, just this once. Anyway, our point is that Tyrant ends its third season tonight with the episode “Two Graves.” In it: “Barry and Molly are on the brink of waging war on the Caliphate. Leila makes a bold political move and braves the possibility of a close betrayal. Barry and Daliyah face a final reckoning in their relationship. The conflict in Abuddin threatens to turn into a bloody civil war.” All of this sounds like it could be easily resolved with a little something called a Commander-In-Chief Forum. We’re just saying. Maybe next time.

Running Wild With Bear Grylls (NBC, 10 p.m.): Bear Grylls really, really, really wants to zig-a-zig-ah with nature, which is why he’s brought along Mel B for a new episode of Running Wild With Bear Grylls (on a special night, of course). “Adrift on the open sea in a small rowboat, Mel B is rescued by Bear in a way you’ll have to see to believe.” But what if we just want you to tell us? Also, what if, instead of that, we get a Mel B remake of The Shallows? Just brainstorming, you guys. Just brainstorming.

Queen Sugar (OWN, 10 p.m.): OWN’s brand new, critically acclaimed series Queen Sugar makes its official time slot premiere with its second episode, “Evergreen.” “The siblings plan the funeral, but Charley and Nova disagree about how best to honor their father; and Ralph Angel and Aunt Violet are at odds over whether it’s okay for his young son to attend the funeral service. In other events, Charley faces the fallout from the news about her husband and also learns there are things they don’t know about their father’s farm.” We’re not quite sure about what they don’t know about their father’s farm, but we’ve got a guess… Is it haunted? It’s totally haunted, right? (Probably not. We’re sorry to get everyone’s hopes up.)
