A sequel to The Trip is already filming
Filming has begun on a sequel to 2010's The Trip. Michael Winterbottom returns to direct Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon, once again playing ever-so-slightly fictionalized versions of themselves, as they travel around talking about life and acting, comparing Michael Caine impressions, and otherwise getting on each other's nerves.
This time, however, the duo will be annoying each other in Italy, as they retrace the steps of Shelley and Byron, with all the "pompousness and portent" that implies. (Presumably this means this time they trade impressions of Keats and Oscar Wilde?) As before, the film will be presented as a six-part series for the BBC, then edited into a feature-length movie for US distribution by IFC Films. The only mild disappointment is that Winterbottom passed over the title The Trip 2: Still Trippin' in favor of The Trip To Italy. Missed opportunity, there.
