A single flaw in The Simpsons' sixth season has been discovered, hereby ruining it

“And Maggie Makes Three” is a lovely episode of The Simpsons, serving as a hilarious, heartfelt origin story for the animated clan’s youngest member. It also contains what might be the most glaring error in the history of a show that’s more or less managed to cleverly sidestep continuity questions throughout its 29 seasons.

Executive producer Matt Selman pointed it out on Twitter, sharing a screenshot that shows a pregnant Marge sitting before a very large portrait of the baby that is currently in her belly.

This prompted reactions from a number of Simpsons talents, including Yeardley “Lisa Simpson” Smith, who forgot the golden rule of blaming all errors on wizards.

Writer Bill Oakley, the man behind “Steamed Hams,” quickly course-corrected with a plug for Matt Groening’s Disenchantment, for which he’s a writer.

Al Jean, on the other hand, couldn’t mask his apoplectic rage, with the veteran writer declaring that the “canon is in ruins!” He also ensured that justice was served for the 23-year old error.

How such a glaring and catastrophic error could get past the animators remains a mystery, one that could only be solved, of course, by Knightboat: The Crime Solving Boat.
