A small town is not as it seems in the trailer for M. Night Shyamalan’s Wayward Pines
The first trailer for Fox’s Wayward Pines, the “event series” executive produced by M. Night Shyamalan, is here with plenty of confusion, mystery, and as is the way of Shyamalan, things turning out to be different than they initially seem. The story will follow Secret Service agent Ethan Burke, played by Matt Dillon, as he investigates the disappearance of two fellow agents in a seemingly happy, sleepy Idaho town. From the looks of it, he’s also getting over a bad car crash and/or hangover-induced bout of amnesia.
Terrence Howard also stars as the town sheriff, who appears calmly telling citizens they are all blessed, not allowing Burke to leave, and perhaps most questionably, displaying a strong affinity for rum raisin ice cream. Melissa Leo, Juliette Lewis, and Carla Gugino round out the cast, with an appearance by bearded Andy Botwin, whom Burke is told to murder by a particularly gruff telemarketer. The nerve on those guys.
Wayward Pines is based on the 2012 novel Pines by Blake Crouch, which itself was based on Twin Peaks. So by the transitive property, it’s based on Twin Peaks. Chad Hodge developed the series and executive produces alongside Shyamalan, who also directed the pilot. The Twists™ begin in earnest May 14.
