A Star Is Born puts on a cowboy hat and heads to Coachella
Filming on the (new) remake of A Star Is Born will get meta this week as Lady Gaga films in character at Coachella, where she just headlined. However, the film apparently won’t riff on Gaga’s own arty pop-star persona, instead taking on the world of country music. (The argument can be made that Gaga veered in that direction with Joanne, but this is neither the time nor the place.)
According to a press release issued today, Cooper, also the director of the project, will play fading country star Jackson Maine. Gaga—who we should probably start referring to as Stefani Germanotta, because that’s how she will be credited—is Ally, the upstart who wins Jackson’s heart, but also makes him feel bad when she becomes more famous than him.
As for these scenes at Coachella, Warner Bros. is trying to populate the audience with Gaga fans, offering $10 tickets to participate on Tuesday and Wednesday. (The proceeds are going to Gaga’s Born This Way Foundation.) “The scenes for these days will portray a Country Western music concert,” the event information reads. “All you Monsters that can attend should get decked out in your most comfortable denim & boots, throw on a Stetson (leave those pink Joanne hats at home) and come out to show your support!” But not for Gaga and Bradley—for Ally and Jackson.
