A “vulgar woman” confronts Laura in this American Gods exclusive
[This post includes plot points from season one of American Gods, which is currently unfolding on Starz.]
If you’ve read Neil Gaiman’s American Gods or just watched the first three episodes of Bryan Fuller and Michael Green’s adaptation on Starz, you know that Laura Moon (Emily Browning) met with an especially unfortunate death. So did Robbie (Dane Cook), and it’s precisely because of those adulterous circumstances that a hopped-up-on-goofballs Audrey (Betty Gilpin) propositioned Shadow (Ricky Whittle) at the funerals. In this clip from the upcoming “Git Gone,” which the A.V. Club is exclusively premiering, a no-longer-stoned Audrey confronts Laura, who’s back from the dead for reasons as yet known to her.
As Audrey rails at her, Laura experiences more than emotional discomfort, but by the end of their interaction, Audrey is spent. When she talks about the transformative power of grief, she’s describing its adverse effects. Laura’s momentarily stunned, especially since she now knows that Shadow knows about the affair. But, as Mad Sweeney himself (Pablo Schreiber) told us, she’s got to get back out on the road soon, so she won’t really have the time to deal with these recriminations from a “vulgar woman.”
American Gods airs 10 p.m. Eastern, Sundays on Starz.
