Ava DuVernay’s adaptation of A Wrinkle In Time has already amassed a huge (and top-notch) cast: Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Chris Pine will play the scientist parents of Meg Murry (newcomer Storm Reid), who sets off in search of her father when he goes missing. Along the way, she meets three cosmic beings—Mrs. Who, Mrs. Whatsit, and Mrs. Which—who help her track down her father and the tesseract. Entertainment Weekly’s got the first look at the cast on set, including Reese Witherspoon, Oprah Winfrey, and Mindy Kaling as the three wise women who assist Meg.

Winfrey is looking appropriately regal as Mrs. Which, the oldest of the three (but who is still far from “wizened,” no matter what the book might suggest). Witherspoon is sporting red hair and a beatific expression, while Kaling looks like she could bore holes into a wall with her stare (and she’s the “philosophical one.”)

The photos don’t provide much insight into the three A-listers’ chemistry on set, with each other and the rest of the cast. That’s up to DuVernay, who, in addition to providing background on why she chose to adapt the source material, shared what sold her on each casting. The Selma director, who made history as the first woman of color to helm a $100 million movie, points to Witherspoon’s “innocence,” Winfrey’s “Oprah-ness,” and Kaling’s ascension on the small screen as both the star and creator of her own series. But even though they’re all highly influential players, DuVernay says Winfrey’s Which will very much be the leader of the group.

A Wrinkle In Time unfolds in theaters March 9, 2018.
