Intermittent pop star Aaron Carter‘s been pretty forthcoming about his real-life struggles with substance abuse and eating disorders. He’s chalked that up to growing up in the public eye, both as brother to Backstreet Boy Nick Carter and as a hitmaker in his own right. It’s been kind of a rough year for Carter, who was arrested on suspicion of DUI and possession of marijuana last month. But the former teen idol appears to be on the mend, and is now doing what he can to promote LGBTQ visibility. As Billboard reports, the intermittent pop star came out as bisexual on Twitter yesterday.
In an earnest note, Carter revealed he first realized he was bi at the age of 13. “This doesn’t bring me shame,” Carter wrote, “just a weight and burden I have held onto for a long time that I would like lifted off of me.” The singer later thanked fans for their support in wake of the announcement, as well as a recent hospital stay.
