Aaron Sorkin broke his nose on his own dialogue

Aaron Sorkin arrived at the Emmys looking as though he’d swapped noses with the late Karl Malden, his battered bridge every bit as fiery and swollen as an Aaron Sorkin monologue. After enduring several jokes about the difficulties of walking and talking, Sorkin revealed the actual explanation, which is that his writing process is so intense that sometimes he can’t help but smash his face into a mirror, which sounds about right. “I wish I could say I was in a bar fight," Sorkin told the L.A. Times, "but I broke my nose writing,” explaining that he was reciting a speech from his recently picked-up HBO series to his own reflection, when he got so into his impassioned argument for the importance of cable television news to stand as a beacon in the darkness of political spin (or whatever) that he “accidentally head-butted himself.” Sorkin’s razor-sharp dialogue thus lacerated his nose, as it has the world.
