Abbi Jacobson and Dave Franco to lead Netflix’s heroin-epidemic drama

Abbi Jacobson and Dave Franco are no strangers to pot jokes, but they’re going to get serious about saying no to drugs in a new Netflix original film. Deadline reports the two have been cast as siblings in 6 Balloons, a drama from writer-director Marja-Lewis Ryan, who’s been tapped to pen the Splash remake.

6 Balloons will reportedly address the “upper-middle-class heroin epidemic” that first seized the nation in 1991, but has also affected other socioeconomic strata. Franco will play Seth, a heroin addict who relapses on the Fourth Of July despite having his 2-year-old daughter is in his care. His sister Katie (Jacobson) will be on hand to help pick up the pieces. Jane Kaczmarek and Tim Matheson have also been cast in the film, which Netflix recently picked up along with a helicopter heist flick starring Jake Gyllenhaal. There’s currently no word on when production is set to begin.
