ABC Family is making a docu-series about a transgender parent

It seems the success of Transparent has made other networks start looking into shows about transgender people. ABC Family has ordered a reality series that sounds similar to a real-life version of Transparent, in that it follows a teenage boy who learns that his parents are divorcing and that his father is becoming a woman.

My Transparent Life, from Ryan Seacrest’s production company will see young Ben and his family navigating the changes in their lives brought about by their father’s decision. ABC Family President Tom Ascheim enthusiastically endorsed the new series, saying, “While Ben’s family situation is unusual, the themes and coming-of-age issues are universal, and we think our viewers will find a real connection to them.” The network has not yet announced a premiere date.
