ABC orders pilot for Elizabeth Banks’ cop/criminal buddy comedy
ABC has ordered a pilot for a new cop dramedy from movie-star-turned-prolific-producer Elizabeth Banks. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the network has given the nod to an hour-long pilot for Banks’ new series The Trustee, about a detective who teams up with a “larger-than-life” convict serving out their sentence by doing menial jobs in the police station, in order to solve crimes and also probably learn some things about friendship and/or justice.
The series is being written by Jay Scherick and David Ronn—whose other credits include two Smurfs movies and Norbit—and seems to fall somewhere on the 48 Hrs. side of the great buddy cop/buddy criminal/buddy heroic orangutan axis of movies or shows.
