ABC picks up Goldbergs spin-off pilot, plus Carol Burnett’s new show
ABC has picked up two new comedy pilots tonight, giving a green light to a Goldbergs spin-off set in the 1990s, and a new sitcom starring comedy legend Carol Burnett. The former was announced back in November, and would likely feature two recurring, school-based characters from the popular ’80s-set sitcom: Bryan Callen’s Coach Mellor, and Tim Meadows as disenchanted guidance counselor Andre Glascott. ABC currently says there are no actors attached to the project, but both performers are expected to be involved in some form. (Meadows will have to juggle his commitments with Son Of Zorn, though.)
Burnett’s show, meanwhile, is a collaboration with her long-time admirer Amy Poehler, and will be her first starring role in a sitcom ever. Titled Household Name, the pilot centers on a family that manages to buy their dream home, on the condition that they allow its former resident, a flamboyant aging actress (Burnett), to continue to live there with them.
