ABC renews its primetime game shows, including Pyramid and Match Game

ABC announced yesterday that it has ordered another season of its summer primetime game show lineup, which includes Celebrity Family Feud, The $100,000 Pyramid, Match Game, and To Tell The Truth. The four shows—all of which premiered this summer except Steve Harvey’s Feud—have performed well, according to ABC. The network notes in a press release that its excellent Pyramid remake, charmingly hosted by Michael Strahan, is the summer’s top-rated new show, winning its time slot in total viewers. Pyramid also tops its competition in advertisers’ favored 18-49 demographic, which is important because once you hit age 50, you might as well be dirt as far as the nation’s consumer goods manufacturers are concerned. Alec Baldwin’s boozy, exuberant Match Game has seen similar ratings success. As for ABC’s revision of Truth—which is a choppy mess—the release simply explains that the lie-detection game performed much better than its year-ago predecessor in the time slot, Extreme Weight Loss.

ABC’s announcement failed to note when the next season of these game shows would air—whether they’d be back next summer or perhaps earlier, as midseason replacements. The A.V. Club asked network press representatives to clarify the timeline, but as of publication, they hadn’t offered an answer, presumably because they want it keep it a big secret. Maybe there’s a hidden message there—could a revival of I’ve Got A Secret be next? Here’s hoping.
