An hourlong crime drama, just called Marlowe, is still in its early stages but would bring Raymond Chandler's seminal detective to a 21st-century L.A. Variety's saying that so far, there are no plans to write episodes based on any of Chandler's actual stories. Producer Sean Bailey tells Variety that Marlowe is "a guy who can travel in the highest echelons of power and the darkest and dirtiest corners of the city," but will still "get his ass kicked every once in a while," which should sound familiar to anyone who's read Chandler's books or seen any of Marlowe's previous film or TV incarnations. Let's hope the writing is up to the character's pedigree—TV could use a character who's better at wisecracking than Doctor House.
