ABC’s fall schedule puts Inhumans on Friday, shuffles sitcoms

ABC has unveiled its fall schedule for the 2017-18 TV season, using established franchises to launch new series like The Good Doctor from House’s David Shore. The new drama, which stars Freddie Highmore, is getting a spot after Dancing With The Stars Monday nights at 10 p.m., and ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey insisted during a press conference call Tuesday that Shore “has once again created a defining medical drama.”

The network is also moving Black-ish to its 9 p.m Tuesday slot. Dungey argued that the series, which used to follow Modern Family, is now “ready to anchor its own night of television,” serving as a lead-in for the new comedy The Mayor from Hamilton’s Daveed Diggs and drama The Gospel Of Kevin, starring Jason Ritter.

While Wednesday and Thursday remain largely static, Friday will be home to the new incarnation of Once Upon A Time, a franchise that is losing some if its major players. The rebooted version will chart the adventures of a grown-up Henry, Dungey said. Finally, Marvel’s Inhumans will air at 9 p.m. on Fridays, following its IMAX premiere.
