ABC shows Uncle Buck the door

It seems like just yesterday that Uncle Buck was invited into viewers’ homes to entertain as well as look after their children, against the wishes and/or estates of just about everyone involved in the original John Hughes film. But the lackluster remake, which starred Mike Epps as the titular avuncular caretaker, has already overstayed its welcome at ABC, as Deadline reports there won’t be a second season. The publication first caught wind of series co-star James Lesure’s downtrodden tweet about the cancellation, but ABC has since confirmed.

Deadline notes that Uncle Buck had respectable ratings over its four-week eight-episode run,” which actually increased over time. So maybe it was ABC that wasn’t ready to watch a ne’er-do-well raise children instead of hell.
