Abel Ferrara tackles the Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal in Welcome To New York trailer

Money, debauchery, abuse of power—the story of disgraced IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn and his sex scandal involving a hotel maid seems ideal for Abel Ferrara (Bad Lieutenant, King Of New York), a filmmaker who’s built a career on stories about troubled men going off the deep end. This brief, unsubtitled trailer offers a glimpse of Welcome to New York, Ferrara’s first French-language production, which stars Gérard Depardieu as Strauss-Kahn stand-in Devereaux and Jacqueline Bisset as a character based on his ex-wife, journalist Anne Sinclair. Keeping in line with Ferrara’s pet themes of sin and failed redemption, the movie’s official synopsis describes Welcome To New York as the story of “a man who dreamed of saving the world and who cannot save himself.”

Welcome to New York arrives on VOD in France on May 17. There is no word yet about a U.S. release.
