About Time’s Lydia Wilson joins Star Trek Beyond
The upcoming Star Trek Beyond has added yet another new cast member to its ranks, but—as is proving to be a pattern with these sorts of announcements—there are no details on who she’ll be playing. Lydia Wilson is best known for her performance as Domhnall Gleeson’s colorful sister in the rom-com About Time; she’s also appeared in some British TV shows like Ripper Street and Misfits. According to Variety, Wilson has officially joined the Star Trek cast, but whether she’ll be aligned with the returning crew of the U.S.S. Enterprise or with Idris Elba’s mysterious villain remains to be seen.
In addition to Elba, Sofia Boutella (Kingsman: The Secret Service) and Joe Taslim (Fast & Furious 6) will also be playing unspecified roles in Star Trek Beyond, which is currently filming in Vancouver. Meanwhile, although Alice Eve had a fairly major role in the previous film, she hasn’t officially been added to the new cast and claims she’s “not sure” if she’s returning. So while J.J. Abrams is no longer helming the franchise, it seems incoming director Justin Lin is just as keen on cultivating an air of mystery.
Star Trek Beyond is scheduled to hit theaters July 8, 2016.
