Yesterday marked the one-year anniversary—as well as the finale—of action figure historian Danny Neumann’s “At Home With The Super Neumanns,” a popular social media project documenting a year in the laid-back life of “Mr. and Mrs. Super Neumann.” (A.k.a., his custom-made Lois Lane and Superman action figures.) Neumann has posted a picture a day to his Instagram for a year now, with the photos running the gamut of the superhero experience—but mostly focused on day-to-day life, like shots of Mr. S fixing the house, getting a massage, or even receiving a tattoo.
Still, there was plenty of time for more topical references, too, like this one posted on the day after David Bowie’s death:
Or inside jokes about Superman’s varied history and superheroic friends:
Well-staged and creatively designed, the pictures present a love letter to the more prosaic parts of Clark and Lois’ superpowered life, hanging out with neighbors, laughing with their friends, and helping out with the “Big Heroes/Big Heroines” program. Neumann even managed to find a legitimately heartwarming ending for the series, positing the entire thing as a trip back through the photo albums by an older Mr. and Mrs. S.
Neumann has said he intends to find a way to transform the project into a book.
