Actually, Blomkamp’s Alien movie won’t ignore Alien 3 and Resurrection
District 9 and Chappie director Neill Blomkamp has been in charge of the Alien series for about five minutes, and he’s already playing with the emotions of xenomorph fans. Earlier this week, Blomkamp suggested that his Alien movie would take place after Aliens and ignore Alien 3 and Alien: Resurrection. Now, though, in an interview with AlloCiné (via the ever-spooky Dread Central), Blomkamp has clarified that he has no intention of ignoring the latter two Alien movies.
“I’m not trying to undo Alien 3 or Alien: Resurrection,” Blomkamp said, adding, “I just want it to be connected to Alien and Aliens.” While that doesn’t really clarify things all that much, it seems like what he means is that his movie will be thematically connected—or stylistically connected—to the first two movies, while not pretending that the other two didn’t happen. Considering that we don’t really know anything about Blomkamp’s Alien—other than Ripley’s sweet new hat up there—it’s still too hard to say what movies it will or will not pretend didn’t happen. (It will definitely pretend the Alien Vs. Predator movies didn’t happen, though, as we all do.)
