In a video announcement at the group's website, Beastie Boys' Adam "MCA" Yauch announced that he was recently diagnosed with cancer of a salivary gland and lymph node. The prognosis seems positive—he refers to having surgery next week, and localized radiation treatments after that, but also notes that he had a full-body scan and that the cancer has not spread anywhere else in his body. All Beastie Boys shows are canceled for now, and the band's new album, Hot Sauce Committee, which was supposed to be released in September, will be pushed back to a later date.
