Adele releases new single, “When We Were Young”
We’re only three days away from the release of Adele’s new album, 25, but the wait has been much longer for avid fans, who have presumably been spinning their emotional wheels since 2011’s 21. Lucky for them, the singer has already teased some of her new sound with the premiere of “Hello,” which features her powerhouse vocals (and a flip-phone). But if that’s still not enough (especially after four years), here’s the worldwide premiere of another 25 track, “When We Were Young.”
Adele performed the song at The Church venue in London, in an interview with 60 Minutes Australia. In a separate interview with SiriusXM, the singer said the song is meant to recall a time (in the future) when she and her lover (or you and yours, take your pick) find themselves at a party with “everyone that you’ve ever fallen out with, everyone that you’ve ever loved, everyone that you’ve never loved.” These people, whom you once didn’t have time for, are now gathered ’round you at some social gathering, but you’re all older now, so “it doesn’t matter and you have so much fun and you feel like you’re 15 again. So that’s the vibe of it really.” Have a listen and let the melancholy and/or awkwardness wash over you.
