Adventure Time will end after its ninth season
We hope you have some bacon pancakes on hand, because you’re going to need some consoling. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Adventure Time will end after its ninth season. Cartoon Network made the announcement today, with its chief content officer Rob Sorcher expounding on the impact the award-winning show has had.
Adventure Time changed the definition of what a kids’ TV series could be, and it’s had a resounding impact upon popular culture around the world. Cartoon Network Studios is proud to have brought together this group of brilliant artists and animators who helped make Adventure Time one of the most critically acclaimed TV series of a generation.
But Pendleton Ward’s critically-acclaimed series won’t just slink off into the good night—THR reports that the series will wrap in 2018, and that the remaining two seasons will consist of 142 half-hours of content. There will of course be new episodes, but also miniseries, specials, and something “more,” according to Cartoon Network.
Ward, who recently put together a self-homage for The Simpsons, shared his own bittersweet statement: “Adventure Time was a passion project for the people on the crew who poured their heart into the art and stories. We tried to put into every episode something genuine and telling from our lives, and make a show that was personal to us, and that had jokes too! I’m really happy that it connected with an audience for so long. It’s a special thing, I think.”
Production on the ninth season of Adventure Time is underway.
