Jimmy Fallon’s celebrity stunts can get exhausting, but now and then the late night host and his team can conjure up something that is objectively delightful. Last night’s involved, as is often the case with Fallon’s best gags, house band The Roots, who here cram into a tiny room with Fallon and none other than Aerosmith for a rendition of “Walk This Way” performed entirely on children’s instruments.
Xylophones, shakers, bongos, and woodblocks allow for a spritely, whimsical take on the 1975 hit, and Fallon even makes a stone-faced Joe Perry smile when he sings about being a “high school loser,” cracking a super serious facade that’s downright hilarious in this goofy-ass context. Meanwhile, Questlove shakes a sneaker. It’s got to be the best and funkiest the band has sounded in years, practically begging for a follow-up of “I Don’t Wanna Miss a Thing.”
