Against Me!’s Laura Jane Grace to star in web series about trans identities

Although trans visibility has made great strides over the past few years thanks to people like Laverne Cox, Lana Wachowski, and Chaz Bono, there’s still quite a bit of prejudice, misinformation, and outright bigotry out there against the transgender community. Laura Jane Grace, the singer of punk band Against Me!, knows all this very well—she very publicly came out as a transgender woman in 2012.

Since then, she’s involved herself in some online debates about gender and trans identity in the music world, and will further make her case for understanding and acceptance with a new web series for AOL Originals, True Trans With Laura Jane Grace. On the show, Grace will talk about her experiences growing up with gender dysmorphia, her transition, and her current life as a woman. She’ll also interview trans celebrities (like Buck Angel, the subject of a fascinating documentary of his own) and regular, non-famous trans people about their lives. AOL will make the first four episodes of True Trans available on its homepage on October 10 in advance of National Coming Out Day on October 11, with the rest available through the AOL On app.
