Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. soaks up Absorbing Man

The best comic book character names are the ones that explain everything about a character as quickly as possible. Superman is a man who is super. Captain America is a captain from America. The Hulk is a guy who hulks. Some characters, like The Flash or Hawkeye, require a little too much legwork to be instantly recognizable for someone who isn’t familiar with them, though. For the next comic book character that Marvel is adding to Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D., it has wisely chosen a guy who fits into the first category. Those are always much easier to explain.

According to Variety, Teen Wolf’s Brian Patrick Wade will be joining the series next season as the villainous Carl “Crusher” Creel. In the comics, Creel is also known as Absorbing Man, a man who—as indicated by his name—can absorb things. See? That was nice and easy. It takes a particularly special character to have a nickname and a supervillain name, but despite being an occasional headache for Thor and The Avengers, Absorbing Man is pretty far from an A-List bad guy. He’s also not as famous as Xena or Mockingbird, both of whom are going to be on S.H.I.E.L.D. next season. Still, though, he’s a guy from the comics and now he’s going to be on TV. That’s worth something.
