Al Franken to write a “psychological thriller” about his time as a U.S. Senator

Move over, James Patterson (or maybe just the guy next to him)—Al Franken has announced he’s writing a “psychological thriller” about his time as a politician in Washington. The Associated Press (via Page Six) reports that Franken, who represents Minnesota in the Senate, is writing a memoir in which he will “recount the frustrations and the hopes of life in the Senate.” That description certainly suggests a work with more of a comedic bent—well, that and Franken’s years as a writer and performer on Saturday Night Live. But we suppose the Democratic senator could find his way into Patterson’s milieu by dramatizing the events of the confirmation vote he presided over for Supreme Court Justice Sonia Sotomayor, or that time he got in trouble for helping write a SNL sketch about Senator John McCain. In all likelihood, Franken, whose previous books include Rush Limbaugh is a Big Fat Idiot, will stick with what he knows and lambast his fellow members of Congress, who have found it nearly impossible to get any work done lately.
