Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard drops surprise album as Thunderbitch

Between releasing her band’s new album, Sound & Color, and jamming onstage with Sir Paul McCartney at Lollapalooza, 2015 has been a pretty good year for Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard. And it’s only getting better: Yesterday, the singer/guitarist surprised everyone by dropping an entirely new album with a mysterious outfit named Thunderbitch. It’s streaming in full on the band’s website now.

Rounded out by members of local Nashville outfits Fly Golden Eagle and Clear Plastic Masks, the band’s website leaves its origin story vague with a bio section that reads, “Thunderbitch. Rock ‘n’ roll. The end.” And if you happen to enjoy the record enough to want to see them live, well, the website leaves that question open-ended as well with a vague, “Maybe someday….?”
