Alan Ball picks Holly Hunter as the star of his latest HBO show

True Blood and Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball has found the leading lady for his latest examination of American dysfunction and psychosis. Variety reports that Holly Hunter has signed on as the star of Ball’s latest show, an untitled family drama that the well-known writer and showrunner is developing at his old home of HBO.

Hunter will play Audrey Black, a therapist and ostensibly successful mother of four, who’s now forced to peddle her psychological gifts in the corporate world in order to make ends meet. Audrey is described as smart and caring, traits that will presumably serve her pretty poorly in the empathy minefield that is The World Of Alan Ball.

Oscar-winner Hunter has become a TV regular in recent years; she starred for three seasons on TNT’s police drama Saving Grace, and recently had a supporting role on Elisabeth Moss’ Top Of The Lake.
