Provided he doesn’t somehow find a way to leave the already-filmed finale through the magic of editing, Alec Baldwin will have served through all seven seasons of 30 Rock—no minor miracle considering he spent at least two of those hinting that he was quitting any minute. Now, in a new interview with Rolling Stone, Baldwin explains what motivated those feelings, besides Baldwin’s natural tendency to back out of things: He felt the fifth season marked a creative decline he calls “a low point,” blaming its weak scripts. “The scripts are weak? The fucking scripts are weak? You’re weak,” no one said to him, regrettably, though Baldwin says he did realize that “even anemic 30 Rock writing is still better than everybody else's writing.” Nevertheless, he adds, “I go, 'I'm going to get the fuck out of here, I'm done,' because I'm an employee, I don't have any say. So Season Five ends, and I'm saying 'Next year, I'm done,' then I come back, and Season Six is really good, we all had fun again." So, all’s well that ends well, except the part where 30 Rock is about to be over forever.
