Alex Winter insists that Bill & Ted 3 parties on

The radical dudes and righteous dudettes of the world are furiously air-guitaring today as Alex Winter, a.k.a. Bill S. Preston, Esq., has shared a killer update on the long-rumored third Bill & Ted movie. Despite having gone through a pretty gnarly depressive period late last year, the most excellent threequel…

You know what? Let’s just leave it right there. I have my dignity too, you know. Anyway, Alex Winter gave an interview to Yahoo! UK this week; Winter was there to promote Grand Piano, where he plays Elijah Wood’s scheming assistant, but as it does every time Alex Winter sits down for an interview (or goes to Starbucks or to the grocery store, presumably), talk turned to Bill & Ted 3. Here’s what Winter had to say about it:

“It’s all about Bill and Ted grown up, or not grown up,” he says. “It fits very neatly in the [series]. It’s not going to feel like a reboot. The conceit is really funny: What if you’re middle-aged, haven’t really grown up and you’re supposed to have saved the world and maybe, just maybe, you kinda haven’t?”

“[It’s] answering the question: ‘What happened to these guys?’,” he continues. “They’re supposed to have done all this stuff, they weren’t the brightest bulbs on the tree, what happened 20 years later? To answer that question in a comedic way felt rich with possibility.”

“The thing we had going against us is that word got out,” Winter says. “That was kind of a bummer…Now we’re having to build this thing in public, which is fine. I just feel bad [the fans] have to get dragged through this long, boring, protracted process… We’re in that world where producers are on, financiers are on and we’re just working and reworking the script.”

Now that that’s done, what are everybody’s plans for the weekend? I’ll probably go to a movie later. I already saw The Guest, so I’m not really sure what to see. The Drop is still playing, and that looks okay, although I could very well end up at Atlas Shrugged, Part III if I go to happy hour first. Any recommendations?
