Alexandre Desplat will score Luc Besson’s Valerian after leaving Rogue One
Earlier this month, we reported that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story composer Alexandre Desplat had dropped out of the film after reshoots caused him to have a scheduling conflict. Rogue One hired Michael Giacchino to replace him, and now The Hollywood Reporter says that Desplat has moved on to Luc Besson’s Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets—because you can take the man out of the space movie, but you can’t take the space movie out of the man. Besson made the announcement himself on Instagram, explaining that Desplat had to “leave the ‘Black Star’” but found “a new home” in Valerian. (For the people out there who aren’t Francophiles, “Black Star” is how “Death Star” is translated in the French version of Star Wars.)
Valerian And The City Of A Thousand Planets stars Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne, and it’s based on a French comic book about space people doing stuff in space. The film will be in theaters on July 21, 2017.
