Alicia Vikander is your new Lara Croft in the Tomb Raider reboot
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Alicia Vikander will be starring as Lara Croft in Norwegian director Roar Uthaug’s Tomb Raider reboot. This goes against a hot rumor from early in March, which said The Force Awakens lead Daisy Ridley was the frontrunner for the role. Perhaps Ridley decided that being one badass with an accent who spends a lot of time in deserts and temples was enough for her? Either way, Vikander—who recently appeared in the sci-fi drama Ex Machina—will now be the one putting on Croft’s brown shorts and waving around her trusty dual pistols at evil treasure hunters and dinosaurs (assuming this movie is anything like the old Tomb Raider video games).
Speaking of the old Tomb Raider games, that series underwent a reboot of its own back in 2013, dropping a lot of the goofier elements of the old titles in favor of a more grounded approach and a more well-rounded characterization for Lara Croft herself. Presumably, this reboot will take more inspiration from those newer games than it will the old ones or the Angelina Jolie movies, but it’s impossible to say for sure at this point.
