All-American Rejects frontman Tyson Ritter will play Gregg Allman in a new Allman Brothers biopic
Pop-punk frontman Tyson Ritter has been cast as Gregg Allman in an upcoming biopic about the Allman Brothers. The All-American Rejects singer will play a young Allman in Midnight Rider, which is being written, produced, and directed by CBGB director Randall Miller. The movie will use original Allman Brothers songs, as well as tracks that have been re-recorded by the cast.
The film is an adaptation of Allman’s autobiography, My Cross To Bear, and will feature both a young Allman (Ritter) and an older Allman who, later in life, realizes he has to sober up. There’s no word yet on who’ll play the older Gregg Allman, but Wyatt Russell (22 Jump Street, Cowboys And Aliens) is set to play brother Duane Allman.
While it might seem a little insane that the “Gives You Hell” guy is some sort of actor now, Ritter has actually appeared in several television shows and movies, including Parenthood, Betas, and The House Bunny.
