All celebrities are welcome in the Empire premiere, but they are not welcome to eat human flesh

When you have a first season as big as Empire’s, you can’t skimp on the second-season premiere. And Empire certainly didn’t skimp with “The Devils Are Here.” The episode indulges in celebrity guest stars (Chris Rock! Marisa Tomei! Don Lemon?), a hoverboard for Hakeem, and a cold open that doesn’t just rally support for an imprisoned Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard)—it also puts Miss TV Breakout 2015, Cookie Lyon (Taraji P. Henson), in a gorilla suit, making a statement about mass incarceration that would be more poignant if Lucious wasn’t guilty as fuck. Joshua Alston has already broken down everything that’s wrong with the opening scenes of season two; in the video above, Erik Adams and Marah Eakin add their own thoughts on #FreeLucious, before moving on to the other big Empire question that’s on everyone’s mind today: Was Chris Rock supposed to be eating a part of that dude’s face?
